Mazafati dates, one of the most popular date varieties in Iran and worldwide, originate from the city of Bam in Kerman Province. Also known as 'Mazafati Bam dates,' they are prized for their sweet taste, soft texture, and high moisture content.
As the largest producer of Mazafati dates, Kerman Province holds a significant share of both the domestic market and export sector. Additionally, regions such as Jiroft, Anbarabad, Narmashir, Baravat, Regan, Kahnouj, Hajiabad, Saravan, and Rudbar Junob cultivate dates with quality comparable to Bam's.
Mazafati dates are oval-shaped with a soft, juicy texture. Their skin is black, shiny, smooth, and thin, easily separating from the flesh. While consumers generally prefer darker-colored Mazafati dates, the fruit undergoes a natural ripening process—starting as red, then gradually turning light brown, dark brown, and finally a deep purple-black. Unlike other date varieties such as Kabkab, Khasui, and Piarom, Mazafati dates have a core that easily separates from the flesh.
